# How to get your app featured on the App Store and Google Play

> You ask Apple for featuring by submitting a featuring nomination in App Store Connect (Apple asks for at least two weeks' notice, recommends up to three months for wider consideration, and its help page suggests a minimum of three weeks), and you ask Google Play by requesting featuring on a promotional content event at least 14 days before it starts, within a quarterly quota.

## How does featuring work on each store?

| | App Store | Google Play |
|---|---|---|
| How you ask | Featuring nomination in App Store Connect | Request featuring on a promotional content event |
| What you nominate | New content, app enhancements, or an app launch (including pre-orders) | An offer, a time-limited event, or a major update |
| Lead time | At least 2 weeks (getting-featured page); minimum 3 weeks advised (help page); up to 3 months for wider consideration | Submit at least 14 days before the event starts |
| Quota | No stated limit | Per quarter: apps up to 6 (broad audiences) and 2 (specific audiences); games 4 and 2 |
| Extra material | Up to 5 supporting URLs; in-app events can be attached | Tagline, description, images, optional video |
| Guarantee | None | None |

> Apple's two pages give different lead times: the getting-featured page asks for "a minimum of two weeks notice" and suggests up to three months for wider consideration, while the App Store Connect help page recommends "a minimum lead time of 3 weeks". Plan for three weeks or more.

## Where can Apple feature an app?

Apple's editorial team uses stories and collections on the Today, Games and Apps tabs, App of the Day and Game of the Day, themed lists, in-app event placements, pre-order highlights and Editors' Choice (with a badge on the product page). Selections are localized and curated per region. Any app is eligible for App of the Day or Game of the Day, new or old.

## What does Apple look for?

Apple says there is no checklist, but lists the factors its editors weigh:

- **User experience:** cohesive, efficient, valuable functionality.
- **UI design:** usability, appeal and overall quality.
- **Innovation:** new technology that solves a unique problem.
- **Uniqueness:** a fresh take on a familiar category.
- **Accessibility:** a great experience for a broad range of users.
- **Localization:** high-quality support for several languages with culturally relevant content.
- **Product page:** compelling screenshots, app previews and descriptions, and positive ratings and reviews.

Games are also judged on gameplay, art, controls, story, replayability, sound, technical performance and overall value.

## How do I submit an App Store nomination?

Required role: Account Holder, Admin, App Manager or Marketing.

1. In **Apps**, select the app. In the sidebar, under **Featuring**, click **Nominations**.
2. Click **+** next to Nominations and choose **Create Nomination** (first time: **Get Started**).
3. Give it a memorable name, click **Next**.
4. Choose the type: **New Content**, **App Enhancements** or **App Launch**, click **Next**.
5. Write a **detailed description**: what is coming, why it matters to users, and how important it is to you.
6. Choose the **publication date or date range**, click **Save**.
7. Under **Additional Information**: related apps (up to 10 from the same account), platforms, countries or regions, localizations, attach an approved or published **in-app event**, add up to **5 supporting URLs** (documents, art, a TestFlight public link), and helpful details such as accessibility work.
8. Click **Submit Nomination**, then **Submit**.

Several nominations can be uploaded at once with a CSV file (Import Nominations); imported nominations are submitted immediately and cannot be saved as drafts.

## How do I request featuring on Google Play?

Featuring on Google Play runs through [promotional content](https://uptika.app/en/guides/google-play-promotional-content). Promotional content is available to all games and to apps that meet Google's eligibility for its premium growth tools; featuring requires that eligibility too.

1. Go to **Grow users > Store presence > Promotional content** and click **Create Event**.
2. Choose the event type, countries, start and end (up to four weeks; major updates run 28 days, pre-registration announcements one week). All start dates in an event must fall in the same quarter.
3. Choose the audience: everyone, potential users, or specific groups such as churned or lapsed users and buyer states.
4. Under featuring, request featuring. Submit at least **14 days before the start**.
5. Add a specific tagline, a description that does not repeat it, a primary image and a square image without text, and ideally a YouTube video with ads off.
6. Localize, then **Submit event**. Events cannot be edited after submission, and approval can take up to four days.

A request is only used when the event is submitted, starts in the current quarter and has featuring requested; cancelling before the start returns it. Events without featuring requests are unlimited.

## A featuring readiness checklist

1. The product page is complete in every language you support: screenshots, preview, description.
2. Ratings are healthy and recent reviews are answered.
3. The moment is real and dated: a launch, a big update, new content or an event.
4. Accessibility and localization work is done and worth mentioning.
5. The App Store nomination is submitted three or more weeks ahead; the Google Play event 14 or more days ahead.
6. An [in-app event](https://uptika.app/en/guides/in-app-events) is approved in time to attach to the nomination.
7. Promotional artwork can be produced quickly if Apple asks for it.
8. Team members with Admin, App Manager or Marketing roles watch their email.

## How do I know I was featured?

Apple notifies you through the App Store Connect app if you are featured in select Today tab placements such as App of the Day, and lets you share visual assets. Otherwise, the signs are sudden jumps in impressions and in chart positions.

## How does Uptika help?

Uptika reads App Store and Google Play category charts every 3 hours and records when your app enters, rises or drops out, which is often the first visible sign of featuring; alerts can go to Slack, Discord, Telegram or a webhook on paid plans. The free [Chart Movers](https://uptika.app/en/tools/chart-movers) tool shows a category's daily climbers and new entrants. The Free plan tracks one app in one storefront: [start free](https://uptika.app/app/#/?signup=1).
