# Google Play review time in 2026: how long it takes

> Google gives no fixed review time for Google Play: its help pages say processing can take a few hours or up to seven days, longer in exceptional cases, while the production access review for new personal accounts usually takes seven days or less and promotional content can take up to 4 days.

## How long does Google Play review take?

**There is no official fixed time.** What Google writes in Play Console Help is a range: processing an app or update can take "a few hours or up to seven days", longer in exceptional cases. Google also says that for certain developer accounts it takes more time to review apps thoroughly, which can mean up to seven days or longer. Anyone quoting an exact average for Google Play is quoting their own sample.

| What is reviewed | What Google says |
|---|---|
| New app or update (production, closed, open) | A few hours up to 7 days; longer in exceptional cases |
| Apps from certain developer accounts | Extended review, up to 7 days or longer |
| Production access application (new personal accounts) | Usually 7 days or less, occasionally longer |
| Internal testing release | Available within minutes |
| First upload on a testing track | Temporary name and listing for up to 48 hours |
| Promotional content | Approval can take up to 4 days |
| Publishing after approval (managed publishing) | Live within a few minutes of your click |

## What goes to review besides app bundles?

Not only new builds. Google lists country targeting changes, App content changes, store listing updates and store settings changes among the changes reviewed. A new short description or screenshot set can therefore sit in review just like a release, and removing a change from review does not always take it out of review.

## How do you read the review status?

Open **Publishing overview** in Play Console. It groups your changes:

- **Changes not yet sent for review**: saved but not submitted. Click send to start.
- **Changes in review**: Google is reviewing.
- **Changes ready to publish**: approved, waiting for you (only with managed publishing on).

Use this decision path when something seems stuck:

1. Is the change in **Changes not yet sent for review**? Then it is not being reviewed at all. Send it.
2. Is it **in review** for less than 7 days? That is within Google's stated range. Wait, and make sure the login details in App content still work.
3. Is it **in review** for more than 7 days? Google allows "longer in exceptional cases". Check your email and the Inbox in Play Console for policy messages, then contact Play support from the Help menu.
4. Was it **rejected**? Read the policy email, fix the exact issue, and resubmit. The usual causes are covered in the Google Play rejection reasons guide listed below.

## How do you control the go-live moment?

Turn on **managed publishing**: Publishing overview, Managed publishing status, Turn on managed publishing, Save. Approved changes then wait in **Changes ready to publish** until you click publish, and Google says they go live within a few minutes. This is the only way to pair a Google Play launch with a fixed date, because review time itself is not predictable.

## How does it compare with the App Store?

Apple gives percentages: at least 50% of submissions reviewed in less than 24 hours and 90% in less than 48 hours. Google gives a range up to a week. If you ship on both stores the same day, submit to Google first and use managed publishing and manual release on both. See [App Store review time](https://uptika.app/en/guides/app-store-review-time).

## Planning checklist

- New personal account? Add 14 days of closed testing plus up to 7 days for production access before your first release (see [the 12 testers for 14 days rule](https://uptika.app/en/guides/google-play-12-testers-14-days)).
- First production release: allow a full week.
- Updates: submit several days before you need them live; use managed publishing for dated launches.
- Store listing text or graphics changes: treat them like releases; they are reviewed too.
- Need testers on a build today? Use the internal track (see [testing tracks](https://uptika.app/en/guides/google-play-internal-closed-open-testing)).

The steps around review are in [How to publish an app on Google Play](https://uptika.app/en/guides/publish-app-google-play).

Review status stays inside Play Console, but the effect shows on the public page. When you tell Uptika which new title or short description you submitted, it reads the Google Play page every day and marks the day the text went live, then **Keyword radar** shows how ranks moved from that day. ## Questions

### How long does Google Play take to review an app?

Google does not promise a time. Its help pages say processing can take a few hours or up to seven days, or longer in exceptional cases, and that some developer accounts get extended reviews. Plan for a week.

### Why is my first app taking longer than my updates?

Google says it takes more time to review apps from certain developer accounts to protect users, which can mean up to seven days or longer. New accounts and first releases are where extended reviews are most likely to apply.

### Where do I see the review status?

On the Publishing overview page in Play Console. Changes are grouped as not yet sent for review, in review, and ready to publish.

### Does internal testing go through review?

Internal test builds become available within minutes, which makes the internal track the fastest way to get a build onto devices. Closed, open and production releases are the ones to plan review time for.
