# Listing X-Ray

Listing X-Ray compares the searchable text of any App Store or Google Play listing with the store's own search suggestions in that country and with the category's top 10 apps, then gives 3 prioritised fixes.

## How it works

1. **Reads the public listing.** On the App Store, the iTunes Lookup data and the public product page (subtitle, screenshots, app previews); on Google Play, the public app page. The App Store keyword field is not public, and we never guess it.
2. **Counts characters.** Name and subtitle 30 + 30 characters (App Store), title 30 and short description 80 characters (Google Play). Apple counts a word once across these fields, so words repeated in the name and subtitle show as wasted space.
3. **Asks the store's own suggestions.** Types the listing's main words into that country's store search box and collects the suggestions. For each suggestion it checks whether its words appear in the searchable text: name + subtitle on the App Store, title + short + full description on Google Play. On the App Store the hidden keyword field may cover more, so the share is a floor.
4. **Compares with the category.** Holds the rating count against the median of the top 10 apps of the same category's free chart in the same country (our daily chart reading, or a live read of the chart).
5. **Ranks the fixes.** Search reach first, then conversion (screenshots, ratings), then upkeep (updates, languages). No AI; every fix rests on a measurement.

## FAQ

### Can you see my App Store keyword field?

No. The keyword field is only visible in App Store Connect. The X-Ray never guesses it, which is why suggestion coverage on the App Store is a floor. Paste your field into the Metadata Linter to see repeats and wasted characters.

### What does "suggestion coverage" mean?

When we type your listing's main words into the store search box, the store suggests searches. A suggestion counts as covered when all of its words appear in your searchable text. The missing words are candidates to add.

### Why compare ratings with the category's top 10?

Rating count is one of the heaviest signals against the apps above you in search. The top-10 median shows what "strong" means in that market.

### How fresh is the result?

Results for the same listing are cached for 12 hours; the page shows when it was measured. With an Uptika account the same measurements refresh daily and changes arrive as alerts.

### How often can I use it?

A few measurements a day without signing in; cached results do not count. Open a free account for more and for daily tracking.
