How long does App Store review take?

Apple publishes one official figure: App Review works around the clock and typically reviews at least 50% of submissions in less than 24 hours and 90% in less than 48 hours. That covers the review itself. After approval, a release can take up to 24 hours to reach all storefronts.

StageOfficial timing
App Review (app versions and items)50% under 24 hours, 90% under 48 hours
Appearing on the App Store after releaseUp to 24 hours
Manual release left waitingApple emails a reminder after 30 days in Pending Developer Release
TestFlight beta reviewNo published figure; first build needs a full review

Apple does not publish separate weekend, holiday or per-category times, and anyone who quotes such numbers is quoting their own experience, not Apple.

Each platform can have one app version in review at a time, plus one extra submission with items such as in-app events or custom product pages. Apple notes submissions may not be reviewed in the order you send them.

Why do some reviews take longer?

Apple names the reasons itself: complex apps, apps that present new issues, and apps repeatedly rejected for the same guideline or that tried to manipulate the review get more scrutiny. In practice the avoidable causes are:

  • A login with no working demo account in App Review notes (guideline 2.1 asks for full access).
  • Features hidden behind hardware, a QR code or a server switch with no instructions.
  • Review notes that do not explain what is new or unusual.
  • Resubmitting the same build after a rejection without addressing the message.

How can you speed it up?

  1. Submit complete. Demo account, review notes and in-app purchases in the same submission. A rejection costs far more time than any queue.
  2. Answer messages fast. Rejections and questions arrive in App Store Connect. A quick, specific reply often resolves a metadata issue without a new build.
  3. Choose the release option before submitting. Manual or scheduled release lets you submit early and still launch on your day.
  4. Use expedited review only when it is real. Apple accepts requests for a critical bug fix (with steps to reproduce on the current version) or an app tied to a dated event (event, date and how the app relates). Apple warns that abusing the system can get your future requests refused.
  5. Know the bug fix rule. For apps already on the store, Apple says bug fixes will not be delayed over guideline violations except legal or safety issues: you can ask to ship the fix and address the issue in the next submission.

How does it compare with Google Play?

Google Play does not give percentages. Its help pages say review can take up to 7 days or longer in exceptional cases, and new personal accounts first pass a 12-tester closed test. Details are in Google Play review time.

Planning a launch around review

Uptika cannot see your review queue, but it sees the result: when the new name, subtitle or text you submitted appears on the public App Store page, Uptika marks the day it went live, and Keyword radar shows how your ranks moved from that day. Try it on the free plan.

Questions

How long does App Store review take?

Apple's figure: at least 50% of submissions are reviewed in less than 24 hours and 90% in less than 48 hours. Complex apps, new kinds of issues and apps rejected repeatedly for the same guideline take longer.

Does App Review work on weekends?

Apple says App Review works around the clock. It does not publish separate weekend or holiday figures, so plan launches with a margin rather than counting on a specific day.

How do I request an expedited App Store review?

Use the expedited review request form linked from Apple's App Review page. Apple accepts it for critical bug fixes (include steps to reproduce the bug in the current version) and for apps tied to a dated event (include the event, its date and the app's link to it). Overuse can get future requests refused.

How long after approval does the app appear on the App Store?

With automatic release, the app goes out on approval; with manual release you click Release This Version. Either way Apple says it can take up to 24 hours to appear on all selected storefronts.

Why is my app stuck in Waiting for Review?

Waiting for Review means Apple has your submission but has not started. Apple does not review strictly in submission order. If it has been far longer than 48 hours and you have a real deadline, use the expedite form; otherwise leave the submission in place, because removing it and submitting again creates a new submission.
