One-Star Reasons
One-Star Reasons reads an app's recent App Store or Google Play reviews and sorts why people give 1-2 stars into reasons: crashes, ads, price, login, speed, updates and support.
Method
- 01
Reads recent reviews
On the App Store up to the newest 100 reviews from that country's public review feed; on Google Play up to the newest 100.
- 02
Sorts them with a fixed lexicon
Word stems in six languages (TR, EN, ES, PT, DE, FR): crashes/bugs, ads, price/subscription, login/account, speed/battery, updates, support. No AI; the same reviews always give the same result.
- 03
Compares versions
Average rating of versions with at least 5 reviews: if the latest version is worse than the ones before, that is the first place to look.
- 04
Separating words
Words that appear clearly more often in bad reviews than in good ones. Example quotes are shown without author names.
Questions
How many reviews are read?
The newest reviews the store makes public: usually up to 100. For apps with few reviews read the shares with care; the sample size is always shown.
Why no AI?
Consistency and cost in a free tool. In the Uptika panel reviews are collected daily and clustered with AI; here a fixed lexicon is used and the method is open.
Do you show author names?
No. Quotes are shortened and author names are not shown.
